Alice: What is the legacy of punk in your life?Gerber: “It filled the hole, still does. I found myself. It inspired me, it gave me the gumption to do what I wanted to do, rather than pretend to be someone I wasn’t in a world of puppets. Not to say I haven’t grown and changed (and that’s a constant), but (punk) is my center. Punk helped me define my morals, likes, dislikes, without wearing a 99 cent pair of taupe Leggs, hating myself. Though I had moments of trying that, it never lasted. I always lost them and dug thru my bags of thrift store treasures and donned my white powder and Black Orchid lipstick. Punk set me free to scream my truth…it needed to be screamed.” - Gerber (aka Michelle Bell), “Queen of the Masque Scene” - Interview with Alice Bag for Women In LA Punk archives.
