A Response to ‘Real Punk Belongs to Fighters’

A response to Jessica Bruder’s call to punk arms in today’s @NYTimes.

The original op-ed can be found here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/09/opinion/real-punk-belongs-to-fighters.html

Thank you for bringing attention to the plight of the young women accused of hooliganism in Russia. While punk in other countries manifests in different ways, it is far from dead in the US and UK. Punk has never been found in the boutiques. The rebellious spirit of punk remains alive and well in the streets of the US. A show in support of and in solidarity with the accused members of Pussy Riot will take place on June 12th at Death By Audio in NYC. I encourage anyone who wants to experience the kicking, screaming and still very much alive spirit of punk to attend this event.

There is also something extremely revolting about a Columbia professor opining in the NYT what “real punk” is.
